JK Johnson
Partner, Healthcare

​

Mr. Johnson is a seasoned veteran of the senior living healthcare industry, with almost 20 years of experience in the areas of acquisitions, operations and management.

 

Mr. Johnson has completed the acquisition of $1billion of senior living facilities across the United States over the last year as President of Best Years, a subsidiary company of China-base Union Life Insurance Company. Mr. Johnson also worked in China from 2012-2015 as CEO of Senior Living for Union Life Insurance Company. In those three years, Mr. Johnson was able to bright the high levels of senior care that is well known in the US to the fast-growing China market. He helped to develop six large-scale CCRC facilities, and implemented the critical procedures and training guides required for their operational success. Mr. Johnson oversaw 300 employees and $6B RMB of assets.

 

Mr. Johnson was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) where he taught Legal and Regulatory Issues in Long Term Care. Mr. Johnson also received his Masters in Gerontology from the University of Southern California, and obtained a B.S in Health Administration from Indiana University. He holds multiple licenses, including: Skilled Nursing Administrator, Nursing Home Preceptor and RCFE.

James Su
Partner, Development


Mr. Su has over 20 years of experience in commercial real estate investment, development, valuation and consulting. James has advised REITs, private equity real estate investors, and other large portfolio owners on a broad range of acquisition, development, valuation, financing, and tax issues related to commercial and residential real estate industries.

 

Mr. Su has also worked on major transactions involving the acquisition of portfolios of multi-family, office, retail, industrial, and hospitality assets. Mr. Su has worked with a number of the nation’s top owners and operators in the retail, mixed use, and multifamily spaces, including Essex Property Trust, Prime Group, Rockwood Capital, Prometheus Real Estate Group, Thomas & Mac, Kilroy Realty, and Spieker Properties. Over the years, Mr. Su has worked with clients on real estate transactions and development projects totaling in excess of USD$20 billion.

 

Mr. Su completed his undergraduate studies in Architecture and Civil Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master in Taxation from California State University, Northridge.

Justin Lam
Partner, Business Development

 

Mr. Lam has 20 years of management experience working in Silicon Valley and China. Mr. Lam ran a $200 million Mobility Business Unit for Cypress Semiconductor (formerly AMD & Spansion) during a five-year assignment in Shanghai and Shenzhen. Prior to that Mr. Lam worked in Silicon Valley in the technology and semiconductor fields, where he led teams on corporate strategy, M&A deals, merger integration, subsidiary spinoff, and bankruptcy protection. 

 

Mr. Lam has an extensive network of connections in the real estate, private equity and technology sectors in China. Mr. Lam helped to raise a private equity fund to invest in early-stage startups in the US. He also advises real estate investors on their overseas direct investments in both the US and Southeast Asia for residential, commercial and industrial assets. 

 

Mr. Lam received his MBA and undergraduate Economics degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He also studied Economics and Chinese at ILCP, a Stanford University and National Taipei University joint program in Taipei.

Daphne Hsiao
Partner, Investor Relations

 

Ms. Hsiao has been a commercial real estate and retail executive in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for over 18 years.

 

Ms. Hsiao previously served as Deputy General Manager of Gemdale Group (a publicly listed, Top-10 developer in China) and was in charge of commercial real estate planning, leasing and operations. In 2015, Ms. Hsiao was transferred to the Los Angeles office of Gemdale USA, and promoted to Managing Director of Commercial Real Estate where she led efforts in sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities ranging from $100 million to $1 billion.

 

Prior to that Ms. Hsiao held high-level positions at real estate developers Zhaotai Group and Lifestyle Center Holdings. Ms. Hsiao was also the first China-based employee of Guess USA, and she led the successful expansion of Guess stores across China.

 

Ms. Hsiao received a MBA degree in Leicester University of United Kingdom.

Kevin Louie
CFO & Investments

 

Mr. Louie is a real estate executive with over 20 years of experience investing, managing, and selling commercial real estate with a focus on the Western US markets. Mr. Louie was a founder and Chief Financial Officer of San Francisco-based 365 Main, Inc. 365 Main acquired buildings that were converted into data centers and leased out. Mr. Louie had a wide-reaching role that included financial reporting, accounting, and investor relations. He was responsible for the company’s strategic expansion plan, and in 2010 orchestrated the sale of the company for $725 million. Through this deal investors in 365 Main received a 3.4X equity multiple and a 24% IRR on their investments.

 

Prior to 365 Main, Mr. Louie was a Vice President at Rockwood Capital, a real estate private equity firm. He was responsible for portfolio management, financial analysis, and asset management. At Rockwood Capital, Mr. Louie oversaw portfolios of distressed data center assets, hospitality assets, and multi family assets.

 

Mr. Louie began his career at Ernst & Young as a CPA serving real estate investment clients. Mr. Louie is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles, and received a graduate degree in business from the University of Southern California with an emphasis in Real Estate.

Jack Jensen
Vice President, Development

 

Mr. Jensen is a real estate industry veteran who specializes in the pre-development and construction management of retail and mixed use commercial projects with a focus on the LA and greater Southern California market. Mr. Jensen worked with legendary shopping mall developer Ernie Hahn at The Hahn Company, during which time he helped to develop over 30 regional shopping centers. After The Hahn Company was acquired by Trizec, Mr. Jensen went on to work for retail developer Donahue Schriber and later on Macerich, one of the nation's largest retail shopper center operators and developers.

 

In his various roles, Mr. Jensen has been involved on the pre-development, construction management, as well as the financing sides of projects, having served in various capacities as a general contractor, a lead project manager, and consultant. Mr. Jensen has worked on countless development projects in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego. Of note is his involvement in the Metropolis project, where Jack led the team at IDS Real Estate Group that secured the final land entitlements for the project.

 

Mr. Jensen began his career at an early age working closely with his father in family’s general contracting business. He is a Southern California native and studied business at the University of Southern California. Mr. Jensen is also a retired officer of the United States Navy.
